 | | Vintage Silver Plated Souvenir Spoon St Augustine Florida FL - Old City Gate -Made in Holland, GERO Georg Nilsson
Very nice vintage souvenir spoon of St Augustine Florida made in Holland. The spoon has an image of the Old City Gate on the top of the handle and is marked "GN GERO 90 Made in Holland". "90" is a quality mark indicating that 90 grams of silver were used to plate 12 spoons and 12 forks. GN is the mark of designer Georg Nilsson. Georg Nilsson worked with Georg Jensen and was the designer working for the Danish Gero factory in Copenhagen until its closure in 1933 due to the world economic situation. He left Denmark and remained working as one of the main designers with the Gero factory in Zeist until his retirement in 1954.
The spoon measures 5" long and is in excellent condition with only light wear. I'm not quite sure of when this spoon was made but I believe it was manufactured before WWII. Vintage English sterling silver cigarette case that belonged to King Farouk of Egypt with royal emblem. This Art Deco style cigarette case measures 4-1/2" by 3-1/2" and weighs 4.97 ounces. In the upper left hand corner is an emblem that has the letter F with a crown on top. The case was made in England and according to the assay marks was manufactured in 1946. It is in near mint condition and looks like it never used. It comes in its original case and has a bill of sale from Onnig Jewelers of Cairo Egypt. The bill sale, written in French, references "One cigarette case from the collection of King Farouk". Onnig was a well know jeweler with a shop near the Cairo Museum. Onnig even authored a book titled "Onnig G. Alixanian ; 50+ years in the life of an Egyptian Armenian jeweller".
The colorful King Farouk was deposed by military coup in 1952. On 18 June 1953, the revolutionary government formally abolished the monarchy, and Egypt was declared a republic. The revolutionary government quickly moved to auction off the King's vast collection of trinkets and treasures. A gorgeous 18k gold diamond and sapphire ring designed in the Art Deco style, signed Belais. The center of this ring holds a very good quality diamond (SI1,H) measuring approximately 4.2mm in diameter. The diamond is an old european cut and weighs .30 carat. It is adorned on either side with medium blue synthetic sapphires. The setting is an exceptional original Art Deco Era 18K white gold filigree. The setting has crisp detailing and is in wonderful vintage condition. The ring was produced by the Belais Brothers, in the 1920’s. They are known for their fine workmanship and exquisite filigree settings. It is signed BELAIS on the shank. This ring is all original, no gem stones have been replaced.
