 
Vintage Ethnic Jewelry - Enormous Single Large Amber or Copol Bead on 22" Silver Tone Chain - Nepal, Morocco
Enormous vintage bead of amber or copal on 22" silver tone chain. The bead measures 1-3/4" wide and placed on its side 2" across. Beads sold as "amber" by traders include beads made of amber, copol, resins binding powdered amber or copol, resins, and plastics. Some of the oldest pieces are not amber. Superb ethnic jewelry, including pieces from China, Tibet, Ethiopia, Nepal, and Morocco, among others, are made from these "amberoids." Such beads have a piney aroma when rubbed. I don't know the chemical makeup of this bead, so will say it is "described as amber." A wonderful example of this type of bead on a heavy gage 22" silver tone chain.
